IVERA
IVERA is a love letter to Puerto Rican womanhood and a condemnation of medical racism. It is movement-forward, and experimental. We begin 17 weeks after Ivera has fallen into a coma due to medical negligence, directly after the birth of her first child. Ivera grapples not only with the impending loss of herself, but the decay of everyone around her. From her hospital room, she relives her happiest moments, and faces her saddest ones. As the veil between worlds begins to lift, Ivera, caught somewhere in-between, observes her loved ones at her bedside. She soon realizes her perfect, vibrant, passionate life wasn’t as beautiful as she thought it was. Can she return to the land of the living before time runs out? What does it mean to be both ever-loving and ever-changing?

"Solanas is the character that we learn the most about and Ruiz does a spectacular job of making her personable and real. It felt like I had met the radical feminist in the flesh."
-Cultbytes
"Alessandra Ruiz makes a stronger impression as Valerie Solanas, the radical feminist author who shot and nearly killed Warhol. But the piece doesn’t have room for a fuller picture of Solanas, a fascinating figure in her own right."

Chasing Andy Warhol
(closed July 2022)
Alessandra portrayed the roles of Valerie Solanas, Julia Warhola, and Giant Andy Puppeteer.
Chasing Andy Warhol, in partnership with SECRET NYC, Greenwich Village Business Alliance, NoHo BID, TMPL Gym at Astor Place, Von Bar and other area businesses, transformed the East Village into a living pop art extravaganza as we reimagine the life of the most influential artist of the 20th century. This theatrical walking tour production employed Bated Breath’s unique multi-media style as scenes from Warhol’s life unfold on the streets, behind windows of area businesses, and inside secret locations along the route. Bated Breath used their unique blend of theatre, dance, film, art, walking tour and puppetry to tell this iconic artist’s story in a whole new way which goes beyond the hype and into the deepest longings of a profoundly important person whose legacy continues to bombard our senses at every turn.
